IslanD-25, written by Alan Doer, is a science fiction book set in the near future in which humanity is divided into two factions. The Earth system continues to function as we are used to, but the other group, called Crystal, have established a holistic economic approach. This system is based on matching supply and demand across every aspect of society so that nothing is wasted; time is considered a currency and can be exchanged for other goods and services. In addition, crystal is a utopian society where the development of arts, sciences, and inner exploration is heavily encouraged.

The book heavily focuses on explaining this system, how the economy works, and other related aspects. There are many descriptions of the architectural style, technological innovations, and the striking balance between civilization and nature. The story aims to critique the capitalist system today's society is based on. While the utopia presented in the book is optimistic, the arguments are convincing and sound. This aspect of the book is enrapturing, and these descriptions help you visualize how such a world could exist.

All of this story is told from the perspective of Alex, a citizen of Macro-Area 3 in Crystal. Alex's relationships help develop the setting, as the way they interact with each other feels more profound. One of the best aspects of the book is, without a doubt, the way these friendships evolve while focusing on a more emotional basis. As a result, the book is not really action-packed, it is much slower, and the story flows naturally from Alex's teenage years to adulthood.

There is some graphic content, and while no descriptions of sexual relationships are given, the focus on the woman's body gets quite explicit. The plot is exciting, and I didn't find anything wrong with the book.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.. The society shown in the book is fascinating, and the story is fulfilling and gets you invested in Alex's welfare. Indeed, there is no action, so I recommend it to readers who enjoy a more introspective story. There is a prequel to this book that explains how this Crystal system was formed, but it is not necessary to thoroughly enjoy this book, and there is also a sequel that promises to be just as fun and with much more conflict.
