Would it be better to be recognized for who you are? or by the achievements they have made in life? How does it feel to have a buddy who is solely interested in their own success, fortune, and notoriety? William H. Cole's novel McDowell is a story of loss, retaliation, atonement, remorse, love, and genuine friendships. It centers on a character named McDowell. He is a physician, specifically a surgeon, who served as president of the International College of Surgeons, directed a medical foundation in Nepal, and was proposed as the next secretary of health for the United States. McDowell takes delight in the work he accomplished, particularly the significant financial contribution he made to the College of Surgeons.

McDowell, however, is an arrogant individual who only considers himself. Despite the fact that he was married to Carole, his third wife, he didn't care for or love her. She divorced him. He is the father of three children: Billie, who is considering a career in music; Sophie, a single woman who works as a photographer; and Ann, who is married. Prior to Michael O'Leary, whom McDowell had betrayed, bringing charges against him, everything was going well for him. In McDowell's life, these are the first of many regrettable events.

The different reviews I'd read about it were the only thing that compelled me to read this book, and I must admit that I wasn't let down. Mr. Williams is a talented author. The arc and development of the plot were enjoyable. There are many events that one wouldn't even anticipate. The element of surprise is right there. No novel should be overly foreboding. The author did a fantastic job of capturing McDowell's essence. His life provided me with a wealth of knowledge. He's strange and occasionally scary. However, I eventually came to comprehend him.

Like a scientist, he is someone who believes in facts and realities. He dislikes being challenged. McDowell may come across as odd, but he genuinely loves his kids. That was truly admirable, the way he kept tabs on them, encouraged their professions, and ensured their comfort. Although he may appear to be going his own way in some ways, he only has his children's best interests in mind. I'd also like readers to understand that, in addition to pursuing riches and success, we also need to evaluate and balance our personal lives. We ought to watch how we treat other people.

I give this intriguing book 5 out of 5 stars due to all of these factors. I gave this novel my full score because, even though it had few faults, nothing bothered me. It has been edited well. Furthermore, I'll suggest this to readers who enjoy quality fiction books. Many readers will find it appealing, especially those who enjoy good investigative books.

Although McDowell was a successful man and seems like he has achieved a lot, he was quite selfish. I would love to read this book to find out more. Great review.

Hiram was such a disgusting character. I didn't like any side of him. He was disrespectful and didn't treat women in the right way.

Not minding the fact that McDowell was a quite successful man, he failed to be selfless, which is very bad of him. He is also a man of facts and reality, which was very nice. Thanks to the reviewer, he did a good job.

There are people like McDowell who don't appreciate those close to them. They believe that their success is solely their doings. Wonderful review. Well-done

I agree with you; Coles is a truly gifted narrator. McDowell seems like an interesting figure, with all the enviable achievements yet just as flawed as the next human being. I like that the story is suspenseful, it makes want to read the book even more. Congratulations for a review well done!
The gift turned out to be a curse. They killed him with kindness.

I think I would love to be recognized for who I am, though I would also love for my works to be remembered. McDowell's arrogance and search for power led him to betray one of his colleagues.
