Review of Man Mission
When Eytan shares his fantasies of annual trips around the world with his newfound friend, Sam, it had been nothing more than a pipe dream. Sam, however, thinks it would be such a genius idea, farfetched though it was. Three years later, he brings it up again, convincing his friend to just take the bold step, despite all the challenges that had come with graduating from college. Just like that, Man Mission was born. With time, they included their other two mutual friends, and as such, Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years And One Epic Journey came to.
As the novel title suggests, Man Mission is an annual voyage whose sole purpose served as a time for the men to take a break from their almost humdrum lives and just go on adventurous trips, doing outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, and cycling in different parts of the world. It was a time to shut out everything else and have some time for themselves. On the first trip, they went hiking in New Zealand, and although things went slightly south, this only made the men even more determined, rather than it serving as a deterrent. With every annual Man Mission, each friend goes through life individually and navigates different aspects of adulthood like courting, marriage, childbearing, jobs, personal growth, and the ups and downs that come with all of that.
Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years And One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel is an incredibly captivating book with an interesting plot. A book that navigates life, cultural differences, friendship, and everything in between. I appreciate the level of insight that one stands to gain from reading. It talks about life in its raw form and covers the good and bad sides of areas of life such as getting married, having and raising kids. The media sometimes makes us believe that life is perfect but this book shows that it is far from that, talking about realities that most tend to ignore or simply not talk about.
I love how the author creates a perfect balance between a captivating plot, realistic characters, and insightful, as well as humorous dialogue. There is also a perfect balance between the tales of the Man Mission and each Man's life, making it very easy to follow and difficult to miss out on their ever-changing lives. I rate this novel five out of five stars. I found nothing I disliked while reading.
I recommend this book first and foremost, to a mature audience as it contains mature language. I also recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good adventure story and to people that perhaps need a reminder that life does not have to be perfect.
