Man Mission is a captivating novel authored by Eytan Uliel. It is the story of four men that describes a yearly escapade ritual they created and that also gives us a glimpse of their lives as they journey from young adulthood to middle age. It is an account full of humour, adventure, and insight told through the narration of the central character. As a teenager, he had this fanatical idea that one could take an annual vacation where one would travel to a different exotic location each year, have fun, sample every sort of weird food, and then, as a way of compensating, engage in some form of physical activity such as hiking, biking, or kayaking. On the day he first met Sam, one of his three friends, he shared this crazy idea with him while at a food fair on campus. Surprisingly, he finds it fascinating, and three years later, they literally make it happen. In the beginning, they turn out to be just ill-prepared, ridiculous trips planned at the last minute with just the two of them, but later the whole group of four is able to join in, and they become a series of well-organized excursions each year to a distinct location. They name it Man Mission , a custom they earnestly keep for the next 15 years, and it's just hilarious how they even go ahead to make rules and assign roles to each of the members.

The book gives us a man's perception of life. They all seem to have this unsought-for need to test their masculinity. It is no wonder that these four, gratuitously engage in risky undertakings like kayaking in the open sea and ice climbing just to feel manly. In a rib-tickling account of these exhibitions of machismo, the protagonist, who appears to be a softie and also quite a clumsy person, narrates his own struggle to keep up, with several near death incidents and some significant emotional and physical injuries in his record. In his life, he is also battling anxiety as uncertainties about the future plague his heart. Although he seems to lead what is considered a normal life, deep down in his heart he is dissatisfied. As a man, though, he believes he should never voice his feelings, and as such, he continues to put on the appearance of a happy husband, father, son, and employee. It is something every other man seems to grapple with. Hence, I feel that the book offers some enlightenment of sorts concerning a man's mind, thoughts, and feelings. It does such a good job of unraveling them that it could feature in one of those 'Things Men Wish Women Knew' column blogs.

I found the book to be thoroughly entertaining and had my interest in traveling totally piqued. I, however, feel it would make it an absolutely better and more decent read if there were fewer, sporadic, or even non-existent swear words.

The novel was superlatively edited, as I never came across any grammatical or typing errors. Also, the events are credible, and the flow of the plot is well balanced and logical. Therefore, I give it an exceptional rating of 5 out of 5 .

Anyone who is a globetrotter or wayfarer would definitely enjoy reading this book. I cannot also hesitate to recommend it to women, especially those wishing to work out the mysterious ways of a man. It should be for a mature audience, as there are frequent occurrences of profane words.
