Re: Review of Catch a Falling Star

Post by Akeh jordan »

Catch a Falling Star by Keith Julius is a book that identifies the struggles of being a drug addict and the ordeals children go through after losing their parents to death or separation. Aleisha is a heroin addict who dabbles in prostitution at times. She's married to Mark and has three children, but two of her children aren't for Mark. After some really terrible choices, Aleisha finally wants to put her life in order for the sake of her children, and she starts taking rehab seriously. The dream of one day being sober with her kids in a healthy family kept her going, but her extended family and her friends didn’t help matters. In this book, we follow her journey through rehab. We also follow her relationship with her immediate family and her friends while she tries to survive her addiction and time in rehab.

You definitely caught my attention with your review, thank you. You make the story sound very compelling. And you stated the heroine of the story "made some really bad choices" but I wonder, does the book ever delve into how she, not necessarily started using, but what compelled HER to get dragged down into addiction? In any event, I loved how you said
insurmountable obstacles that could drag a person with even the strongest willpower down.
That is life at its core. I agree college students would benefit from the insights you mentioned, but I think high schoolers would, as well. A vast majority of them think they're immortal, that they can conquer anything that comes their way, and/or life is a bed of roses; the brass ring there for the taking. Maybe a story such as this could wake them up a little to the realities of adulthood, you never know! But thanks for a really good review.

This sounds like an optimistic book with the protagonist, Aliesha, being determined to fight her drug addiction for the sake of her children. However, due to the triggers present in the book, I won’t be picking it up. Nonetheless, congrats on the BOTD!

Your recommendation for college students is spot on. This book seems like a valuable tool for raising awareness about the dangers of drug use among young adults. I'm definitely interested in reading it after this review!

"Catch a Falling Star" seems to handle such complex and heart-wrenching themes with a delicacy that allows readers to connect with Aleisha's journey on a deeper level.

Talking about drug addiction is so important in this day and age, and knowing that the author approaches this very sensitive theme with gentleness is so reassuring. This should be a book that everyone reads!

This book is relevant in modern society. Drug addiction affects families financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. In this case, the readers can easily identify real-life situations they can relate to. Congratulations on the BOTD.

Caring for a drug addict is a near impossible task; it requires a specialist and even then is often futile. So family and friends not helping matters is a natural consequence; They are often particularly victimised. Just look at the myriad of issues you list: domestic violence, hate, childhood trauma, and so many more. But it's a good job Aleisha, given that she had children, was motivated sufficiently to have a go at rehab.

The review of "Catch a Falling Star" by Keith Julius paints a vivid picture of the book's ability to tackle sensitive topics like drug addiction and its impact on families in a gentle yet impactful manner. The reviewer commends the author for capturing the slow downward spiral of addiction, evoking real emotions and sympathy for Aleisha's journey. The concise chapter lengths are appreciated, making the story easy to follow. The recommendation of this book to college students, as a cautionary tale about the dangers of drug use and abuse, is well-founded given its themes and the relevance of these issues in today's society. Overall, the review provides a compelling endorsement of "Catch a Falling Star."
