Distant Shores by: Kristin Hannah

This was a quick read for me and opened my eyes to some personal issues I'm dealing with so I'm not sure if I liked it or not. lol

The story was about a couple who married young, stayed together through some major life events and then things got rocky after the children moved out. Both sides of the story were represented but I tended to side with the wife through most of the story. Most of it was believable, I was able to relate to her feelings, and at times wanted to high five her for her decisions. The husband angered me for the most part but when the story would switch to his point of view I was able to see things through his eyes. Not necessarily how I would have handled things but it was nice to see it from the other side.

Not sure how I feel about the ending. I don't think I would feel differently if it had ended differently either since I was able to connect with the main character (wife) and no matter what decision/path was chosen there was so much to think about.

I enjoyed the book because it made me think. I usually read to escape from my real life but this one got my attention and I actually sat down with my own husband to talk about it. It helped a lot. Not because there was anything wrong with my own marriage, but because it was a topic we could both talk about and relate to. :)

I'm hoping to read more from this author and have a few of her other books "in queue".
