The intriguing book McDowell by William H. Coles chronicles the downfall of a famous man by the name of Hiram McDowell. Hiram McDowell, a surgeon, has a passion for mountain climbing as a result of the loss of his hiking companion. Dr. McDowell is a man with money, power, and wealth that everyone would want, but he is also a selfish, greedy, and haughty individual.

Since McDowell wanted to lead the international college of surgeons and was prepared to do whatever it took to succeed, he devised a plan with his friend Dr. Michael O'Leary, a member of the executive board, to rig the election in his favor. Dr. McDowell won the election, but during his term in office, he broke the agreement and failed to keep his promise, which made him unpopular and contributed to his defeat. Learn more about how Dr. McDowell's life changed following his downfall and what caused it in this fascinating book.

The author's distinct writing style was fantastic. Even the medical terminology was explained in a straightforward manner that everyone could comprehend, which improved the flow of the book. This book also explains why treachery is harmful and how it could make you the target of adversaries. It also illustrates how, no matter how wonderful a man, abuse of power, greed, and betrayal can ruin his life. This book also demonstrates the strength of family love. Although McDowell is a ruthless and selfish man, his love for his children cannot be questioned. After McDowell's downfall, I learned how he changed from being a conceited and haughty guy to a patient and humble one. This section imparts a moral lesson about the need to practice patience and reflect on our lives regardless of the hardships we encounter in life. The characters were fantastic, and because of the author's explanation, I could identify with each one.

The only thing that made me dislike this book was its poor editing. The book contains many errors, which shows it was professionally edited. Except that the storyline was excellent.

I gave this book a perfect 5 out of 5 stars because it is an excellent read that imparts valuable life lessons and moral guidance. I won't suggest this book to minors because it has some sexual content. I suggest the book to grownups, medical students, fans of suspense and thriller dramas, as well as those who are experiencing bad luck in life.
