Review of Man Mission
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a book documenting 4 men and their travels across New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, and the safari. This book is mostly a work of non-fiction. It documents the exciting adventures the author participated in. At some points, the writing is filled with such energy and adventure that it is hard to believe that this book was about the author’s own travels.
Man Mission strikes the perfect balance between a travel memoir and being an entertaining piece of writing. While it does document the author’s travels very well, it also does this in a way that is interesting and adventurous. I found the line between fiction and non-fiction to be skewed in a welcome way in this book. This book avoided the pitfall of being repetitive and monotonous, like some travel memoirs in the past. I particularly like the personal aspects of the writer’s life being blended into accounts of his travels. For example, there are yearly recounts regularly in the book. This packages the book into nice chunks that make it easier to read. This also makes the chronology of the book clear.
I particularly like the care and detail taken by the author to fully document each location that they travelled to. Each location feels well fleshed out and unique in its description. The book makes the reader feel as if they were at the location in person. Furthermore, the book also documents the planning stages of the trips. I find that stage neglected in other travel memoirs, and so I commend the author for their attention to detail in this fashion. Finally, I could find no editing errors at all. This made the reading experience pleasant and easy.
I am happy to award this book 5 stars out of 5 stars. The book has clear writing and is beautifully descriptive. I must say this book is one of the best travel memoirs I have read. I can find no fault with this book.
I would recommend the book to anyone interested in travel presented in a fun and exciting fashion. This book is a brilliant entry into travel memoirs. I should mention there is profanity throughout and some sexual content mentioned in the book.
