Review of A Matter of Sex
There is nothing wrong with fantasizing because everyone has unique desires. These desires can range from simple ones like beating your friends in a game to more complex ones like being sexually attractive to those you thought were out of your league and even raw, primal lust. In any case, it's a way of escaping reality's harsh clutches and turning it into a kind of movie in which you're the main protagonist. In seventeen different short stories in this book, we get to experience different people's sexual fantasies.
I particularly admire the author's descriptive abilities in this book. Sadie Winters excelled at accurately describing the emotions of the characters, and even though there were many characters involved throughout the book, you could tell how each of them felt differently. You'd think that the same words used to describe a character in one story would be used in the next, but that wasn't the case. It was an exciting aspect for me because I was curious to see what words the author would use in the next story to describe something very common. Another thing I liked was how the author used situations to which many readers could relate. Prom night, a hot professor, and friends breaking out of the friend zone are all fantastical situations used by the author, and these are things that many people can relate to.
The only criticism I have of this book is that, aside from the extremely graphic erotica, the stories had very little else going on. The drama and suspense were practically absent, and these stories felt imbalanced in my opinion. That made me feel like something was missing in the back of my mind. This aspect cost the book a perfect score, so I gave it four out of five stars. This was a great book with only a couple of errors that most adults would enjoy. I say "adults" because it contained extremely graphic depictions of pure erotica and porn. For those who are uncomfortable with this, it is best to avoid this book.
