This book starts off like an action movie, full of thrills and excitement, but progresses into so much more. Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a wonderful journey through the lives of four friends from the start of adulthood to middle age. These friends go on amazing adventures but are also responsible adults who have to get through everyday life, career changes, and family ups and downs like everyone else.

Man Mission starts off with a fun idea between two of the four friends to do an annual holiday that involves great food and a physically challenging activity. When the two friends finally go on the first Man Mission, it’s a poorly planned trip that goes comically wrong, but at the end of it, they still feel a sense of achievement and self-discovery. Each mission gets better after that, with the other friends joining in the fun. They travel all over the world to exotic places while doing something physically challenging every time, like kayaking, cycling over rough terrain, and even ice climbing. These holidays allow the friends to reconnect annually and give them some peace and time to reflect on their life choices. In between these adventures, the friends go about their normal lives, trying to do what is expected. They work hard to make their careers successful, get married, have children, and try to make sure that everyone is happy and taken care of. Life isn’t always easy, and for some, it’s harder than others.

I really enjoyed this book. I was so involved in each character’s life, feeling their emotions, and I really appreciated the growth of each one. The locations that they went to were described so well that I felt as if I was there. The food they discovered was also described very well. I laughed, and I cried and, at times of suspense, I held my breath. The home lives of these characters were also very real and can apply to almost anyone. I loved the comedy of the story too; it made this book even more enjoyable. The friendship between these four men was wonderful to read about.

I don’t really have anything negative to say, there was profanity, but it fit well with the story. The back and forth between the present and the days or weeks leading up to the trip were a necessary part of the story, and I did not find any of it confusing. I would not recommend this book for young readers due to the profanity and the story itself; it is definitely for more mature readers.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars as it is very well written and professionally edited as I found no errors. I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did but was immediately drawn into it.

I definitely recommend this book to readers who love adventure, but also to anyone who enjoys reading about great friendships. I think anyone who is facing difficult life decisions would also benefit from reading this book.
