Review of Man Mission
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a work of fiction that revolves around four friends’ annual taste of adventure. In college, they decide to take an adventurous and manly trip annually, despite how their lives might change over time. They travel to a new location every year and do some outdoor activities there. Cycling, kayaking, and hiking, the four friends tried every strong activity that they could think of. We read about the joys of their adventures and the obstacles they go through. We also see how the nature of their adventures changes as they continue to age. In addition to their adventures, the writer also takes the reader through the many events that go on in the characters’ lives. We read about how they evolve as they age, and the joys and obstacles they face during different stages in life.
This book has many great things about it. The first thing I enjoyed was the humor. Especially whilst the characters were young, the writer wrote many parts in an extremely humorous manner. I was quite amused by some of the conversations between the friends, and the funny obstacles they faced in some of their adventures.
The descriptions in the book are also noteworthy. The way the writer has described the different locations that the friends visit is great. It made me feel like I was with them. There are descriptions of the scenery, the people, and their food. Because I felt like I was with the characters on their adventures, there was excitement before a new adventure. This shows the quality of the descriptions. The explanations are also extremely important in making each trip feel unique to the reader. Without explanations, the story may feel like the same range of outdoor activities done in different locations.
The relationship shared between the characters is also enjoyable to read about. The friendship between the four main characters has been portrayed in an extremely lovely manner. They have friendly banter and serious arguments, but when anyone is going through a difficult time, they come together extremely naturally.
The connection the characters have with their family members is also beautiful. We read about their supportive families and how these bonds develop as they age. The relationships have also been written in a relatable manner. Every relationship goes through ups and downs and the characters in this story go through the same plight. Reading about these beautiful bonds and how they change can make readers feel quite emotional. I found this to be a great addition to the storyline. It made this story more than just an adventure novel.
There is nothing that I would expect to change about the story. Every part of the book has been written in perfect detail, whilst being interesting too.
I would rate this book five out of five stars (5/5). Overall, I love how the story took me through many years of the characters’ lives. The story moves from being hilarious and adventurous to more serious, with time. There is absolutely nothing about the book that I disliked. I would highly recommend this book to people who may not usually read adventure stories either. This is because this book is way more than that.
