Review of Man Mission
"Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel is an uproariously funny and heartwarming novel that follows four friends on their annual boys' trips over the span of fifteen years. The story begins with a dream hatched in college, where they envision exploring new places, indulging in outdoor activities, and relishing local cuisines together. As they embark on their first adventure in New Zealand, the journey takes an unexpected turn when the author, Eytan, gets injured and finds himself in a perilous situation with gun-toting drug dealers.
The book beautifully captures the growth of these friends from young adulthood to middle age as they navigate careers, relationships, and fatherhood. To structure their trips, they create a Man Mission Charter with rules and new traditions, such as wearing a pink bracelet for excessive whining. Through their globetrotting escapades, they find time to bond, release stress, and challenge societal expectations of masculinity. The novel is peppered with hilarious moments.
What makes "Man Mission" stand out is its insight into the male psyche, making it an interesting read even for female audiences. The book addresses the insecurities and societal pressures men face today, highlighting that men from different cultures share similar experiences. Eytan's writing is both humorous and poignant, drawing readers into the adventures and reflections of these friends.
The book's flawlessly edited narrative and engaging writing style make it easy to immerse oneself in the exotic locations and feel the camaraderie among the characters. Each chapter concludes with a trip summary, adding a nice touch to the storytelling. The characters' evolution from carefree adventurers to responsible family men is beautifully portrayed, making them relatable and endearing.
I rate "Man Mission" a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. It's a delightful read that offers a unique perspective on male friendship, growth, and challenges. I recommend this book to both men and women who enjoy humorous and adventurous narratives, as it not only entertains but also provides valuable insights into the male experience. For those seeking inspiration for their own travel adventures, this book will undoubtedly ignite the wanderlust within. There was nothing to dislike about this book. This book was exceptionally edited.
