Can you suggest a book

I am looking for a novel that takes place in England, Ireland, United States, Italy, just about anywhere that has a good story to it. I would be interested to hear if any of you have any suggestions whatsoever of good novels you have read. Thank you!

I good book I recently read is
American Rust. It takes place in Pennsylvania.

If you are into classic literature, I would suggest Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It takes place in France. The beginning is a bit slow, but I promise, the end is worth it.
If you're looking for something a little more contemporary, try Angela's Ashes, which is a memoir and set in Ireland. Also amazing.

If you haven’t read Robert Dugoni, you should. He’s my new favorite author. Dugoni writes legal thrillers, but they’re not trial books, they’re books about injustice with a legal bent. In Wrongful Death Dugoni brings back his protagonist David Sloane and his sidekick, Charles Jenkins, from The Jury Master, and I’m glad he did. Sloane is a great character, a hero with a conscience. Now living in Seattle, Sloane is approached by the widow of a National Guardsman killed in Iraq who wants to sue the government and the military. The odds are stacked against Sloane and his client because of military law, and they get worse for him and his family when he starts investigating how this soldier died. It’s not a book about the war, but the Iraq scenes are very real and frightening. Dugoni doesn’t glorify the war, he tells it straight. If you’re looking for real characters and action packed suspense, read this book

Angela's Ashes is a fine book but Frank's brother Malacky wrote a much funnier memior called "A Monk Swimming." Not nearly as sentimental, but it has an Ice Man Cometh dive-bar feel to it.
Great book that takes place in England and Ireland is The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess. Written in the 1960s and set in the second or third decade of the 21st century. Food shortages, phony wars, compulsory birth control, and all other dystopic things. Very similair in setting to that of the movie Children of Men.

"Here be Dragons" by Sharon Kay Penman. It takes place in Medieval England & Wales. Definitely one of my favorites!

I stumbled across this writer a few months ago after his book was recommended by a friend who had read it. It's an excellent read and half of his proceeds go to WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) so that made it even better!
The book is called Nothing But Animals and it's a comedy. Would highly recommend it.

"The Black Dahlia" from James Ellroy. If you want to get a feel of Los Angeles in the heyday, this is the book.
