I just finished this wonderful novella by Richard Slayton. He expresses our frustration about the modernization of our society through characters who are endearing and moral. I am spreading the word about this underrated gem.

I was so moved by this work. The author's understanding of the problems facing modern society astounded me. His work recalls a day when writers expressed thoughts and beliefs that were far deeper than the shallow mindsets which seem to permeate much of today's literature. I enjoyed thinking about the issues raised in this piece as a change of pace from the celebrity- obsessed, meaningless drivel that we are subjected to today. Forgive me if I am reminded of John Steinbeck, one of my favorite authors. Savers of the Soul tips its cap to the past, with a sharp eye on the future.
