Not Dead Yet by Mark Fletcher is an interesting story about the lives of those living in nursing homes who were assumed dead before their time. At least they are treated so. Like they have already ceased to exist and their sentiments are no longer of importance to the world. The reflections on their lives are recollected through short narratives about the lives of a couple of fictional characters living in a nursing home. Their stories and their inner feelings are expressed, including their attempts to change things with the little of everything they have left. The book also shows the perspectives of those who take care of them and those who leave them there. Who is to blame for this sad situation?

This touching book is a fictional one and yet it tackles reality. The stories trigger the reader into thinking about the treatment of the elderly. Are nursing homes necessary, or are the worlds with these residences missing out on an important generation by giving up on them before their time?

What I liked most about this book was that it was easy to read. It was broken down into short, entertaining, and curious stories. I enjoyed this because it covered many topics at the same time. I appreciated that the book was very well written. I did not find any errors.

I did not dislike anything about this book. It was so carefully thought out that I was left wondering if these were true stories. It was short and yet fulfilled its purpose well.

It is because of the reasons I have stated above that I rate this book 5 out of 5 in appreciation of the author’s efforts and creativity.

I recommend this book to those with elderly people in their lives, whether in nursing homes or not. I would also recommend it to the elderly as motivation for them not to give up yet.
