One Last Dance is a fiction novel written by Ernesto Patino, and published in 2016. In this short novel, the reader is introduced to Marco Anissi who is waking up after being trapped in a brief coma. He is shown a newspaper story about his accident, which alerts him that his vehicle had crashed in to the exact same pole that he had hit 10 years ago to the date- which had resulted in the death of Susan, the woman he was supposed to marry. Marco feels as if this is something much more than a coincidence, and starts considering that it could be Susan's way of reaching out to him.

Determined to track down the fortunate woman who received the heart that had belonged to Susan, Marco contacts Susan's parents- resulting in him learning her name. Julia lives in Tucson, where she is a dance instructor. Marco follows his intuition by packing up and moving from Miami to enroll in dance classes, hoping to find a connection between Julia's heart and Susan's spirit. Marco puts his own health on the line as be begins to fall in love with Julia. Marco knows he should tell Julia the real reason behind their meeting, but his fear of losing her causes hesitation.

I typically find most modern day romance/fiction novels to be somewhat predictable and often a little too sappy for my liking, however this was not the case with One Last Dance. I found both of the main characters to be immediately likeable, and I enjoyed reading about them. Marco has undergone unimaginable pain by losing the person who he considered to be his sole mate, yet he remains positive and consistently shows his compassion for others. Julia has already experienced a heart transplant, yet she continues to fulfull her life by doing what she loves- teaching the art of dance.

I was greatly pleased at how the author handled the romantic plot of the book, especially how he avoided any unnecessary explicit scenes that are often found where there is a romantic relationship. The bond that forms is portrayed as very mature and realistic, one that I truly believe others would enjoy as I did. Ernesto Patino shows true talent for describing a realistic type of connection between two souls.

Overall, I found this quick read to be lovely and truly enjoyable. I felt a connection to both characters and kept my hopes high for their budding relationship. I found a few grammatical errors, such a word repetition (if-if, located in chapter 18) and quotations where there was no dialogue (located in chapter 30.) The errors were minor, and fortunately did not have a negative impact on my reading. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, and would have rated it higher if not for the minor errors listed above. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy fiction with romantic involved plots that can tug at your heart.

Kudos with your post! I prefer regular books. I am going to try the library. They are adding more ebooks. I tried to save every penny.

I think I've read a similar story in the past. Great review but I don't think I would want to read the same story again :)

I had the same feeling while reading this one- that I had read or maybe even watched something on tv similar to it.
