Dune or "Prelude to Dune & Legends of Dune"

Post by Gannon »

I am fully expecting to be crucified by Dune fans about this but I have to know. Is there anyone out there who prefers the prequel series, written by Herbert's son and Kevin Anderson, to the original series? I love the Dunes series(even though I think they are a bit long and have lost a bit by the time you get to the last books) but I love the prequel series better, especially "Legends of Dune". Is there anyone out there who feels the same way? :)

I don't know about the prequel series, I've only read the original novel. I'm only replying because I can agree in that I found "Dune" to not live up to the hype everyone gives it. It wasn't bad, it just never moved very well. It kind of dragged on for me, and it didn't feel very well put together. It had it's moments, but I didn't care for it.

Interesting that this topic is here. I recently saw the new book that came out for the Dune series, I was always interested in this but have only seen the movie. The other day, I picked up the Dune book and am planning to read it. I did wonder about all the sequels to it and how it is. I guess there are two sets, one that was written by the original author, and the other's that were written by the son.

My question is, do all these continue on as one story?

Hey Sharie_K. Both "Prelude to Dune" and "Legends of Dune" are set before the original Dune series. Both series are brilliant, especially Legends. "Prelude" is set just before the original series, where "Legends" goes way back to when man is fighting the machines.
