Northern Umbrage by Dennis N. Lorenz, Ph.D., is a book that tells the importance of preserving our natural environment and the problems that arise from our lack of such. The town is on a rampage; something has distorted their river, killing numerous fish and washing them off the shore. The town council was surprised to learn that chemicals from the company were responsible for killing the fish despite their supposed protection from such environmental hazards.

Across the river lies a pregnant wolf. She hadn't eaten anything for days, but as she arrived at the river, she noticed the wave had washed the fish killed by the chemicals ashore. She immediately pounced on them and finally managed to satisfy her hunger. The meal starts to have tremendous change on the wolf; it kills the fetus in the womb, leaving only one; the chemicals in the food begin to compound on the fetus, causing rapid growth; and soon, the Beast is born. As the name implies, did it survive the unnatural birth? Did it cause irreparable damage to the town? What hope does the town have? The answers will be left for the readers to uncover.

I like the book. Dr. John Bucannon possesses an attitude that I love. His passion and tenacity are evident throughout the book. The book title is a positive aspect; it summarizes the book. I also like the writing style of the author. I am amazed by the character Power Claw and everything he represents in the book.

There are no negative aspects to the book. I do not dislike the book. The relationship that grew between Buc and Sadie is enviable. The book editing is flawless. The story was descriptive and easy to understand. I rate the book Northern Umbrage by Dennis N. Lorenz, Ph.D. 5 out of 5 stars. The reasons for my rating are above.

I recommend the book to environmental pathologists. I recommend the book to political leaders. If you like books on nature, the book is a good fit for you.
