A book my friend told me about!!

It's about a teenage girl who's around the age of 15 I think she said? befriends a very quiet, depressed older boy who's around the age of 20 if I remember correctly. She told me he's had a harder life and doesn't open up to people but learns to trust her but the rest of the community doesn't look at there friendship as morally correct. It's kinda like a coming of age book or something?

AND SHE FORGOT THE TITLE >_< It's been KILLING me. Someone's gotta know SOMETHING about it, or like; a book similar to it.
