The Perfect Life by Anne Callahan is a fascinating blend of paranormal, historical fiction, and romance. The story starts in the middle of the 20th century when Reggie Westing and Sara O’Connor were born. The story then swishes us to the seventies when Reggie and Sara are about to become adults. Reggie’s family is the rich and famous Westing dynasty. Sara’s family is so poor that every Thursday she has to go without any food. Neither Reggie nor Sara know that their birth landed them in the wrong families as the result of the accidental mix-up of their souls in the Heavens. Both Reggie and Sara experience strange dreams. What will become of them? Will the Heavens rectify the error?

The Perfect Life by Anne Callahan is a riveting thriller that revolves around the concept of reincarnation. The story is colorful and thought-provoking. Central to the story are the life paths of Reggie and Sara. This aspect of the novel made me wonder if what’s meant to happen in one’s life, will happen no matter what mix-up. But will it?

Another important aspect is the upbringing of children in rich and poor families and the price the parents are doomed to pay for their errors in educating their children. This is a complex terrain that Anne explores by portraying Reggie’s and Sara’s relationships with their parents.

I thoroughly enjoyed the five hours it took me to listen to this novel from the start to the end. Every episode was action-packed, suspenseful, and a step forward to the logical, yet utterly fascinating climax.

I listened to Anne’s audiobook, it being the only published format available at the time of my review, so editing quality is not in point. As for the audio production quality, Anne did a great job narrating her novel with her dynamic, distinct, and clear voice. The sound recording was flawless too.

I cannot fault any aspect of this amazing novel, so I happily give it 5 out of 5 stars.

As for the audience, this book will thrill paranormal, reincarnation, historical fiction, mystery, suspense, and romance fans. Due to several explicit love-making episodes, this novel is for adult readers.
