I rated the book a five out of five, indicating that the story was amazing and one of the best stories I’ve read. Highly recommended to those who enjoy fantasy non-fiction, young adult characters and historical romance.

I was immediately intrigued within the first few lines of the story. The author painted a wonderful word picture that was perfectly descriptive enough without being overwhelmingly so. I felt like I could see it all unfolding for me. Starting with the main character, a teenage girl who thinks she is ordinary, but somehow knows she is more than ordinary, grabbed my attention as I think that most females feel similarly from time to time. She is a like-able character to both young adults whose life is just beginning and older adults who can remember being that age with life just starting to unfold for them.
I liked how the story started in present time and evolved into other worlds and times quite seamlessly, making it irresistible. I enjoyed escaping into a vivid fantasy world that creatively included the real earthly world.

The charming characters were relatable and like-able, and although at times the characters’ names were hard to follow, they were well-described and mentioned by name enough times to be able to grasp who they were and who they fit into the story, adding to their likability. I could tell that the author used an in-depth knowledge of old world religions, myths and beliefs as she deftly told the intricate side stories to make it all come together and easy to understand in more modern terms. I thought it was an amazing modern take on some of the most loved old legends.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystical, mythical and magical story lines and those that include a young female heroine of divine descent possessing great strength and ability.
