I have been hearing rave reviews about this book everywhere I go, so I finally went out and brought it! I was expecting it to be fantastic, but it was really only ho-hum. Am I missing something?

Nope...I felt the same way. I thought the story was just ok. I was actually a little disappointed. Luckily, I hadn't wasted my money on the book. I checked it out at the library!

Glad you mentioned this, I'd actually heard about it this very day and was going to check it out. Perhaps I still will, but I'll be visiting the library for it then!

Did you read the whole book? The ending was very emotional and powerful. It's hard to describe, but I think it comments on the simultaneous amazingness and fleetingness of love and life. I like the book a lot, but to each his own.

Yes, I did read the ending, but I guess I didn't get the same thing from it as you did. It seemed to me that the ending was a foregone conclusion. And I know that it was meant to be an amazing love story, but I didn't really feel the love between them. She married him because he'd always told her she would, and he married her because she said they were supposed to. there were a few moments that I enjoyed, like when she was describing how Henry felt about her hair. I was completely thrown from the story when the character Clare called her womanly parts the four-letter 'C' word. I'm not at all prudish and I know that strong language often makes a book, but it seemed messy and unnecessary to me, and completey threw me off the story.

I read the entire book as well. Maybe I'm not a romantic, but I just didn't think it was all that good. Heck, it was forgettable because I don't even remember the end of the book.

I sure wish I had read these comments about 10 minutes ago, as I have just ordered the book from play. Once I've read it I will write a note to say whether I enjoyed it.

Friends have been recommending these book to me for ages, I was actually about to order it but now I think I'll wait a little longer

I wouldn't want people not to read the book just because I didn't like it! Many people love it.

I'm very curious to see the movie of this book. I wonder how they are going to transform it into movie. I am especially interested in seeing them use film to show all the time traveling and the various ages each character can be at any time in the story.

I agree. It just seemed so indelicate. The movie highlights your point about how they never really had a choice of being together or not quite well.

I have just finished reading the book and i must say at first i was quite confused as it jumped around a lot but then i got more and more into it and i really enjoyed reading it, the love that the 2 characters had is stuff that some can only dream of, it was very emotional at the end and i did cry and laugh throught especially through the miscarriages, that must have been really tough but it turned out good in the end. cant wait to see the film hope it is as good as the book if not better.

I was kind of hoping for a little more steampunkishness, but I enjoyed it enough. The movie looks like incredibly over-sentimental, though.

SOMETIMES THE PLACE/SPACE WE ARE IN CAN AFFECT OUR IMPRESSION OF A BOOK/MOVIE. RETURNING TO IT LATER WHEN IN A DIFFERENT PLACE WE CAN GET ANOTHER IMPRESSION. ALSO, WHEN OVERHYPED THERE IS AN INEVITABLE LETDOWN.

I loved this book. I loved how you see the whole story from both of the main characters eyes. I have always had a thing for time travel stories and this did not disappoint. My favourite part of the book was probably the Wedding. Alot of tension was built about whether he was going to disappear or not. I actually thought he was going to time travel just as they were exchanging vows. Brilliant ending, sad but very powerful. I am looking forward to her next book, "Her Fearful Symmetry".
