Need help finding a book - I need to move on

Post by sof42 »

Hey everyone, I just finished reading Lolita for the 2nd time and I don't know anything that can compare to it. I've just started reading the first volume of Proust's In Search of Lost Time but if anyone has an idea of something a little more similar to Lolita (minus maybe the subject matter) that would be great :) Thanks.

What did you like about Lolita? The subject matter seems to be the part that stands out most! If you're reading Proust, you've probably already read Pynchon. If not, The Crying of Lot 49 is powerful, and it's a pretty easy read.

I'm struggling through Lolita at the moment. Who knew my vocabulary was so bad!? I have to keep a laptop with tabs open to a translator and Google (so I can look up, "Define (such-and-such)"), in order to get through it. It's an interesting (though disturbing!) book, but I'm finding it tedious. Any suggestions that might help me? (Websites, etc.?)
