"McDowell" by William H. Coles is a fiction story about McDowell's heartless attitude when he wants to get what he wants. He's never friendly to anyone close to him, including his wife. No wonder he left Woolf to die while they hiked in a mountain so that he could hike higher peaks as the only survival. He went ahead to take Woolf's remaining oxygen supply and add it to his. Hiram wanted to become president of the International College of Surgeons, so he sought votes from Michael O'Leary, a key member of the College Board of Governors Executive, and promised him a promotion. Hiram got into the position of president and failed to redeem his promises to O'Leary. This then triggered troubles for him, and his effectiveness and survival became threatened.

There is nothing I dislike about this book. The whole book and plot in it have been crafted expertly, such that I got entertained and positively impacted due to the medical information I got exposed to. Another thing I so much love about this book is the engaging quality the story gives. The Life of Hiram McDowell is a great drama to watch on a screen and think over after watching. He shows lots of cruelty and cheating in the process of actualizing his ambitions. I felt some hatred towards him, and later on in the story, I felt pity for his condition. The book is also written in such a way that it exudes originality, such that it gives readers a sense of reality. No plot twist is questionable, as all the events and twists are justified. The author also shows great literary expertise by adding a suspenseful touch to the story. The organization of the story and the writing style attest to why it is true that the writer is an award-winning author who has also won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction. The use of functional headings that summarize the intricacies of each chapter for the readers is also appreciated, as it helps me easily make sense of the whole information in each chapter, including the education to be gained.

I would rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because I have no dislike for the book. It has been exceptionally well-edited, as I found no typos in it. This book would be appreciated by lovers of realistic fiction. The book would also be enjoyed easily by people in the medical discipline because they can easily relate to the thrills in the plot that revolves around medical-related events.
