ADAPTATIONS

I AM STARTING A CYCLE OF READING BOOKS ADAPTED INTO MOVIES. I THINK THIS WOULD BE AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION FORUM. PLEASE POST YOUR FEELINGS REGARDING ANY MOVIE THAT YOU HAVE ALSO READ THE BOOK. NOT A GOOD VS. BAD THING. PLEASE DISCUSS THINGS SUCH AS CHARACTER DELOPMENT DEVICES (DESCRIPTIVES VS. CINEMATOGRAPHIC INGENUITY) USED IN EACH MEDIUM TO ENHANCE THE TELLING OF THE STORY. THIS IS NOT AN ACADEMIC EXERCISE BUT SOMETHING TO HAVE FUN WITH. NOT NECESSARY TO DENIGRATE OR ARGUE TO GET POINT ACROSS.

This makes me want to read the Jason Bourne series now just so I can compare to the movies which unfortunately and obviously I have seen first.

I want to read those too. The movies were so good.
As for adaptations I have seen, I really liked:
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen (screenplay written by Emma Thompson)
**They combined a few characters from what I remember, but the screenplay was true to the story and the movie was cast well. Everyone fit the part they were cast for I think.
Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella (Field of Dreams was the movie)
**The movie was fairly true to the book except that, "If you build it, he will come," really was for Shoeless Joe Jackson in the book while in the movie it was for the main character's father. Also, Terence Mann (I think that was his name) in the movie was really J.D. Salinger in the book. Other than that, I felt like I was sitting on the porch of an Iowa farmhouse the entire time I was reading the book.
Other Ludlum novels

Beyond Bourne, Ludlum had some other characters that would translate well to the screen. He had this one autistic, computer maven that could be very interesting on screen.
