HIGH ART OR LOW BROW. I HAVE READ THE SANDMAN SERIES AND SIMILAR, AND FIND THEM INTRIGUING. ARE THERE OTHERS OUT THERE LIKE IT?

Sad little thread all alone since 2009,lol

I saw Watchmen and then read the book and I was hooked. That got me into the phylosophy and comic book characters. Up to now I have read a few : Batman and Phylosophy, Watchmen and Phylosophy (not all chapters,just on Rorschach) and have now bought Metallica and Phylosophy ,which btw everyone laughs at me about it.lol

The Trial is amazing ,it represents the novel so well as Crime and Punishment.

The Walking Dead, another great series to read and the art beautiful.

Anyone else?

There are certainly high brow graphic novels out there. It's an artistic medium just like anything else; quality is in the handling, not inherent in the media.

Most people get started on the Maus series. Persepolis is excellent. If you're looking for something a little weird, a little greek tragedy, and a little Dune-esque, read the Metabarons series.

There are also lots of classic novels being remade in graphic novel form. I just read a super-trippy graphic novel version of Kafka's Metamorphasis.

I would read everything you can by Alan Moore. A lot of his stories have already been turned into movies even though the movies have been just so so. But there's Watchmen of course. But there's also the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and his take on the Jack The Ripper story. I also really enjoyed Promothea, whose first 11 issues I thought were just as good as Watchmen. Definitely better drawn by J Williams...

I have loved Holly Black's Kith, Kin, and Keen. Also the Battle Angel Alita series. We have sort of discovered Neil Gaiman this year. Having loved The Graveyard book and The Wolves in the Walls, we might check out his Sandman series now.

I wouldn't say I am a huge graphic novel connoisseur, but my favorite graphic novels so far are Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis books (2 of them). She has a great sense of humor and a great sense of her social and historical context. I learned a lot in an interesting and entertaining package.

I haven't read a lot of graphic novels, just because I find that I have to sift through a lot of mediocre ones to find the good ones. I loved "The Crow", and "V for Vendetta" was pretty good too. I've been told I would like the Sandman series as well. I wasn't too fond of the Priest series.Oh, and I'm actually about to read Stephen King's
