The novel Jake the Last, written by Colin Payne, is a work of fiction that focuses on animals in Africa, specifically the great five, which are being killed for their meat, tusks, or horns, as well as being hunted as trophies. Jake was having a conversation with his close friend, who was also a rhino named Reuben. However, their walk was cut short when two poachers began firing at them, and they were forced to flee for their lives. What are their chances of escaping the poachers?

The reader follows Jake the black rhino, the protagonist of this book, as he engages in conversations with a wide variety of African animals. There are also a lot of fascinating details that you discover about the majority of the animals and the things that are illegal in the Serengeti. To a large extent, the animals behaved in a manner that was similar to how they would in real life, which was a lovely touch. The fact that this book reminded me of my time spent at game reserves made this book a really pleasant and enjoyable experience for me.

This is an incredible novel, and I really appreciated the story's conclusion. I think it's great that the author highlighted that the animals respected each other but at the same time understood the circle of life, even if they continued to hunt each other. As a result of him doing so, the book became more realistic. Avi, a small bird watching over Jake, was my favourite character in the book. The author also managed to incorporate some fascinating information into the conversation in a way that was quite natural.

I gave this book a perfect score of five out of five stars because there was nothing about it that I disliked. The way in which the author described each animal and the ways in which they interacted with one another was delightful to me. Not only did I appreciate the narrative's conclusion, but I also appreciated the author's vivid portrayal of Africa. I only discovered one mistake, which leads me to believe that it was edited professionally.

I would recommend this book to individuals of a more mature age who are interested in learning more about the illicit activities that take place in Africa.

The detailed characterizations of the animals in ‘Jake the Last,’ particularly the protagonist Jake, enhances the emotional impact of the narrative, shedding light on the harsh realities faced by wildlife due to poaching.
