Review of Break up with him now
Break Up with Him Now by Lena Lubinka is a book that tells the story of a woman entangled in toxic relationships with narcissists.
The book is divided into 36 chapters, each presenting a different short story about her unhealthy relationships. How did she find herself in these unhappy relationships where she was treated with no respect? Why did she consistently choose the wrong partners? And how did she get out of it and deal with the emotional aftermath? I believe many people could relate to it.
It’s nothing like a self-help book, though it still provides the reader with steps and advice through her stories and experiences. I like that she looked at her relationship issues from a psychological standpoint, examining the underlying causes of why she always ended up with a bad guy. Understanding these causes is often the crucial first step toward healing and moving forward. I also find the chapter that touches on astrology quite interesting; it provides valuable insights about using the moon phases as a tool for self-reflection and personal growth.
The book is written in a unique style, narrated in the third-person perspective with the pronoun "she." There’s no character name or introduction, so I'm a little confused about whether this is real or fictional. However, I find this storytelling approach intriguing. Through the use of dark humor and sarcasm, she made it engaging as a work of fiction and valuable as a self-help guide. Although she wrote about all her painful relationship experiences and all the negatives surrounding her narcissistic boyfriends, the book still leaves me with an uplifting feeling.
To be completely honest, there’s only one tiny little thing that I didn't like while reading. There's a moment in one story where she borrowed a stranger's phone on the street for a quick call, and he refused. And she then called him a jerk. It gave me pause because I feel like it's unfair to pass judgment in such a situation. But I know I’m not in her shoes, so my perspective might be different.
I also noticed several typos, but they didn’t affect my overall reading experience. I was drawn to it from beginning to end. The book's creative approach to delivering its messages is the main reason I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars, despite its flaws. I highly recommend it to anyone who may be feeling dissatisfied in their relationships and wanting a reassessment or who is going through the challenging process of recovering from a breakup.
