Not Dead Yet! by Mark Fletcher delves into the experiences of residents within an aged care facility, particularly focusing on a facility led by Jill. The narrative commences with residents expressing dissatisfaction with how they are perceived by the facility's leadership. Jill's organization of a sports day appears more driven by meeting key performance indicators than genuinely engaging the residents. However, their collective turnout reflects their discontent, offering suggestions while showcasing their talents in poetry, performance, singing, and composition.

Subsequent chapters highlight individual stories, such as Frank and Douglas, who form a romantic connection despite Douglas' previous identification as straight. Alexander, an eccentric eighty-seven-year-old, amusingly voices his complaints about various matters. Shirley, a seventy-nine-year-old stand-up comedian, sheds light on clandestine activities among the residents through her humor.

Throughout the book, residents assert their rights, feeling marginalized and striving for recognition. The narrative's comedic tone both entertains and prompts reflection on the aged care system.

Not Dead Yet! serves as a reminder that aged care facility residents retain their rights and deserve dignity. The narrative is presented in a casual, straightforward manner infused with residents' comedic antics. Each character is well-developed, from the understanding and patient Jill to the nonconformist Alexander and the creative Shirley.

Structured with a different story for each chapter, the book offers flexibility for readers. Its seamless flow and meticulous crafting enhance the reading experience. Criticism is notably absent, and the book effectively balances entertainment with insightful commentary on aged care facilities.

Overall, Not Dead Yet! earns a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. It is recommended for mature readers of diverse backgrounds who appreciate fictional narratives exploring themes of family dynamics, LGBTQ+ identities, aging, and the aged care system.

Mark Fletcher conceived the idea for the book during visits to his mother in an aged care facility, where he and his siblings provided companionship and assistance. These visits inspired observations that would later become integral parts of the book.
