Nimbin Rocks by R. Addams is a novel that delves into the mysterious disappearance of several young girls in Nimbin, Australia. This novel is one of several mystery books by the same author.

Roy Addams, more affectionately known as Poppa Roy, is an amateur sleuth with unconventional detective methods. In this book, Roy is brought in on a case involving the disappearance of a young woman who was traveling to Nimbin. His methods for investigation involve an African amulet, a piece of paper with a series of questions, and conversing with spirits who then give him general answers. After asking his spirits where the girl could be located, he is eventually led to believe that not only is the girl being held by a Wiccan cult, but there is more than one girl in trouble. With the help of Ray Phipps, a sharp detective with the local police department, and Susie Weissman, a young journalist for the local paper and love interest to Poppa Roy, the trio work together to investigate and hopefully rescue the young girls from a dangerous Wiccan initiation ceremony.

The author writes in first person. I felt as though I was reading someone’s journal on the events of this mystery which made me feel more involved. The tone was surprisingly light considering the mystery genre. The little touch of romance was delightful and tasteful. It did not feel forceful or overwhelm the story. The characters were believable and well developed.

Poppa Roy’s method of asking the spirits for help, and the involvement of the Wiccan cult added a sense of mysticism which was exciting. I was, however, a bit disappointed with the ending. I felt it was a bit anticlimactic. Everything seemed to be a little too easy for the main characters. It felt like there was very little conflict for them to get through to reach their end goal. There were also several grammatical errors such as missed quotations marks that made following conversations a little complicated.

For these reasons, I give Nimbin Rocks by R. Addams 3 out of 4 stars. The story was compelling and the characters were delightful. I want to know how Poppa Roy got his ability to converse with the spirits. I also want to know how he and Susie met. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series to find out more. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the mystery genre looking for an easy read.

Well, thanks for the review, but I don't think this is one for me. It sounds interesting, though, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
