Aa engaging and exiting novel about police work during the 60's up to the late 70's in south central Los Angeles. The story is centered around the Firestone Sheriff's Station and a young sheriff's deputy that is completely caught up in being one of the "elite" that kick ass and run rough shod through the community. He eventuall becomes disillusioned with the "elitists" with the help of his girlfriend (also a cop) and transfers to a HQ assignment with the intention of coming back to Firestone when he makes rank and has the ability to make changes. In a plot twist, he does end up back at Firestone, but not on his own terms. His girlfriend and he are then embroiled in a nasty intrigue that involves possible murder of suspects by the elitists and information being passed to him by an unknown tipster.
This book is a "I can't lay it down". It shows police work many years ago and shows the trials and tribulations of women trying to there job as a cop in a man's world. The end is a real shocker!
