I'd like to recommend Forgiving Ararat by Gita Nazareth, I just finished reading it and I loved it! It's about a female lawyer that dies and goes to a place between Heaven and Hell where she's told she must defend souls in the Final Judgment. Meantime she tries to solve her own murder. Cool book!!

Forgiving Ararat is grown-up Lovely Bones!

It's interesting that you should recommend this book.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on Forgiving Ararat following the premiere of The Lovely Bones, which were on similar theme.

Personally I would give two thumbs up to Forgiving Ararat. It's just like the grown-up version of Lovely Bones, also written from the point of view of a dead person.

Compared to the 14-year old in Alice Sebold's Lovely Bones, Nazareth spoke from the mind of a thirty-something lady lawyer which I think made the novel richer and stronger. It's heavy on politics, religion and history, but style of writing is smart and honest. Definitely recommend this if you're after an intelligent and thought-provoking read.

As the others on this post I too want to recommend this book. I found the concept intriguing and unique. Gita Nazareth paints a fascinating picture of the changeover from life to death by detailing the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Brek. Forgiving Ararat surprises to the very end of the book, as each new twist and turn leaves you speechless and wanting more. It seems in life and death; we are all connected in some way.

If you want a book that captures the imagination and a great conversation piece...this one is it.
