[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Tears and Trombones" by Nanci Lee Woody.]
Tears and Trombones by Nanci Lee Woody is a novel based on a true story. Joey’s love and passion for music and desire to become a renowned trombonist are tested by so many challenges. With the environment in which he grew up being enough to choke his dreams, Joey is determined to do all it takes to realize his dream. He also battles being torn between two women, Donna and Catherine, with Donna being the one he cares for and Catherine being the woman of his dreams. Will things turn out as he expects, or will the challenges he faces hinder Joey from achieving his dreams? Grab a copy of Tears and Trombone to find out.
I liked how Nanci tells the story of Joey in a manner that portrays the true emotions of the main character; this made it easier to understand Joey’s journey from his perspective. Joey’s story tells the story of hope and true determination. Sometimes it’s best to ignore external distractions and face one’s goal. One lesson I learned from the story of Joey is how making sentimental decisions is capable of robbing one of true happiness and peace.
There was nothing to dislike, as the author did an excellent job of telling the story of Joey Woodman as expressively as possible. I liked how the story was told from the point of view of Joey, as this made it a whole lot easier to follow the story. I did not find grammatical errors while reading through this book; hence, it was exceptionally edited.
I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because of the reasons mentioned above. Also, I love how there were inclusions of letters and songs in the book that blended so well with the story. Although the book was divided into parts and not chapters, I had no issues following the story. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy novels that are written based on real-life occurrences. Also, readers who love music and instruments, especially the type of music written about on the pages of this book, will enjoy the story. I also believe a wide range of mature audiences will thoroughly enjoy the contents of this book.
