Border post 99 written by Kedar Patankar is an inspirational fiction novel. It's a story of patriotism and human connection. This book is wonderfully educational, inspiring, humorous, and entertaining. Although it was short. I say it was a short masterpiece.

Border Post 99 is a no man's land. It's located between India and Pakistani border. There is an unspoken, unwritten rule about this land: absolutely no soldiers, no guns, and no posts on this land. But there are always exceptions to the rule. Both countries don't trust each other. Lieutenant Mangesh Sharma, a freshly commissioned officer from the India Military Academy, is appointed sentry at the post. He has never fired a gun at anything but dummy target in a shooting range. He is barely ready for what he will encounter at the post. It will take all his training lessons at the academy to survive on the border post.

The book was well written and formatted. I found the language very simple to understand and read. The characters were incredibly life like. The conversations between the characters were so enjoyable. The humour contained in this book was entertaining. The conflict, drama, and tension were engaging. The final resolution was inspiring. The characters growth and development was educative and applicable. “You should flow like water through life” is one of the quotes from the book that I resonated very much with. The book contains very important teachings that should be learned and applied. Although the story line was short, it was very entertaining. I found the tension between the main characters incredibly engaging and funny. The problems and difficulties they went through was amazingly similar to what countries at war would go through. The author did well on the surprises and I really enjoyed them.

The book was short. At least for me and that was a real bummer. I would have loved it if the author could have made it a bit longer. The ending was a bit abrupt but overall, this book was very entertaining.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The story line was great. The characters were amazing and the language used was simple and understandable. The conflict and tension was entertaining and engaging. The humour was enjoyable. I didn't see the surprises coming and I really enjoyed them. The teachings found in this book are important and I learned from them. I recommend this book to everyone especially young guys because it's really easy to read, it enjoyable, educative, and short.
