“Strength of an African Woman," a book by Michael C. Tredway, follows the story of Sarah, a young Eritrean lady who narrowly escapes enlistment into the military in search of a better life. She experiences a lot of torture, suffering, and maltreatment while on this journey. Get a copy to find out how everything plays out.

This book discusses issues such as war, refugees, resilience, faith in God, fighting for survival, divorce, abuse, and so on. Sarah gets married to Yonis; their marriage hits rock bottom because they didn’t love each other. She only wanted to use it as an avenue to escape enlistment. Then, she meets Eric, a white South African, and falls head over heels for him. Sarah gets pregnant for him, and they get married. During this period, the couple relocated to South Africa, his home country, after losing his job. This situation leads to an unexpected twist as Sarah begins to experience something she never expected.

This book revolves around the Christian faith. I was particularly glad when she had a dream about how to carry out her escape plan in the military camp. This incident made me believe that God speaks to people in different ways than one can ever imagine. I admire Sarah’s resilience to keep pushing and never give up, including having total faith and trust in God.

There is no negative aspect to point out in the book. It is an inspiration to women to become independent and not depend on their spouses for everything. I applaud the author’s ability to put together such a creative masterpiece.

While reading, I found some errors, but they didn’t affect my overall reading experience in any way. This further lends credence to the fact that the book was professionally edited. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars as there’s no reason to otherwise rate it any lower. It was an intriguing and entertaining read, packed with numerous moral lessons.

“Strength of an African Woman” is a book I’d recommend to the female gender, irrespective of age. It gives one courage to change the narrative by fighting hard and going for what one wants. The moral lessons to learn from it are invaluable, such as walking away from an abusive partner and so on.
