For me, the best series out there is The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

I am going to start reading The Sword of Truth series this month with a group of people in the town I live in and also with a group on Shelfari. I'm so glad that I pretty much only see good things about the series! So excited!

My favorite series are:
Anne McCaffrey's Pern series
George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series

a friend keeps telling me to read the Dark Towers Series by Stephen King. So far everything he's suggested has been great. anyone got any feedback?

Also, i really want to read Cormac McCarthy's All The Pretty Horses trilogy. i've only read 2 McCarthy books but undoubtedly he's one of my favorite authors just for The Road and Blood Meridian. has anyone read All the Pretty Horses or the following books in the trilogy?

I am reading The Waste Lands (Book 3) and it's great. The Gunslinger was just ok, but Drawing of the Three and The Waste Lands are excellent. I definitely think it's worth the time. It is really original fantasy, IMO. Just don't give up after The Gunslinger. From what I've heard, it's the only book people don't think is great.

Hope that helps!
