Not Dead Yet!: Stories from the Last Stop by Mark Fletcher is a collection of powerful and thought-provoking stories based in an aging care facility. It captures all the complex emotions and stark realities in which the elderly residents live.

It starts with the entrance of a new customer care manager, Jill, who stumbles into a protest among the facility residents. The story is focused on shedding light on a relatively overlooked dimension. The story personifies the stereotypes of the elderly in terms of age and individuality that could be avoided. It highlights the urge of the elderly to be seen and heard.

Fletcher offers more characters along with their varied stories and he introduces another story "Frank and Douglas". Two friends growing old and addressing their struggles through life; then "Alexander" is the touching story of an old man in regards to his achievements and the regrets of his life; and "Shirley" exposes the complexity of family life and the consequences of the past.

One short story that particularly stood out for me was "Journal," which provides an intimate perspective into the days and thoughts of one resident. It gives very blunt, upfront open-mindedness that people are aging and dying. Then the other stories follow, such as "Elsie," which is beautiful in itself and shows the strength of a lady who will not be defined by her age.

Fletcher brings out in dialogue each voice perfectly, which comes out in his characters. Readers will sense all the empathy the author has towards the characters throughout the book, which makes "Not Dead Yet!" a very human and relatable read. It is a book that describes society itself, involving the implications for the treatment of seniors.

In conclusion, I rate this book a solid 5 out of 5. This book was professionally edited, and there were no grammar issues found. "Not Dead Yet!" is a lovely collection of stories that explore life in an aged care facility. Mark Fletcher captures the essence of the characters, with which the readers can connect, making this book one of the best that narrates the lives and experiences of old people.
