"Burden of Proof"
In light of the recent tragedy in Haiti I'm donating $1 of every book sold to the American Red Cross. It's not much, but I figure any amount will help.
Plot summary: In 2001 after seven innocent Americans open their mail, they die from inhaling deadly doses of the Thorax Toxin. Thorax is a fictional pathogen causing cardiac arrest and trouble breathing. The U.S. Government instantly labels the attacks as biological warfare from abroad. The Thorax Terror becomes the leading catalyst for U.S. entry into a controversial war in the Middle East.
Flash forward to 2007. Americans have grown tired of the war and distrust the current administration. When a plan is set in motion by a committee of nine D.C. power-players to cover-up the truth behind the Thorax Terror, it becomes a race against time to unravel a web of suspense so deadly it could shake the foundations of the U.S. Democratic System.
Here is a recent Review of the book by popular blogger Rebecca Emrich:
Burden Of Proof: A Book Review
One of the most pleasing experience that I have is reading book that people suggest to me, even if normally I don't read that genre. Now I am very open minded, and when Adele Lassiter came to me ask request that I read and review her book I said yes. ( you can do this anytime!) So I read Burden of Proof and was delighted.
Burden of Proof is a wonderful, easy read and is is fast paced. The characters are believable, and have an arc of emotions that is unexpected in a thriller. It main character range from an everyday person with a big secret, Rebecca Howell, to reporters to the FBI to make this a very satisfying read.
The ending is believable, and there are characters who prove that people no matter what happens to them won't change or will look out for themselves. At the same time, it also proves that greed and fear a strong motivators.
I recommend this book, a good evening read, and I loved it. Thanks Adele, and I can't wait for the next one!

I did do research comparing biological pathogens and devised "Thorax." In reality thorax is part of the throat, but in my book it is a powder like pathogen that when inhaled causes problems breathing and cardiac arrest. It is similiar to Anthrax, but slightly different. I gathered what info i could on the CIA, FBI, Homeland, etc...This book really focuses in how bureaucracy within these agencies can cause things to get over looked, and systematic manuevering by political powers that be.
As for how I got the idea. It originally started with the investigation into the Anthrax case, but the story itself is very different and completely fictional. However the story about the scientist who supposedly sent out the spores in 2001 gave me the idea of "what if" there was an attack and lots of the facts regarding it were covered up in order to push through political agenda.
I started writing it in November of 2008 and finished it in Feb. 2009. I spent the next few months editing and pitching before finding a small press who was interested. It was a lot of fun to write, and so far feedback has been really good, especially if you like thrillers.
