"Secret Histories: Stories" by Richard Anthony is a short story collection that intricately weaves elements of history, mystery, and human emotion. Each story is different, but they all share a common theme of hidden truths and discoveries. The author tells great stories and explores the hidden sides of characters' lives through imaginative scenarios and thoughtful reflections.

The collection opens with a tale featuring Oscar Wilde and the discovery of something interesting about the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. This story sets the tone by mixing history with the supernatural to reveal secrets. It’s a fascinating exploration of how even the most celebrated individuals have their skeletons hidden away. Another story explores the fate of French soldiers on Parris Island with emotional and historical depth. It captures the disillusionment and forgotten tragedies of war, presenting an interesting and melancholic narrative.

One thing I liked was the division of the chapters, which included many stories. I found it an interesting choice that made the book dynamic. The author’s writing is insightful, showing a deep understanding of human nature and secrets. It also helps you connect more with the characters. This book is a compelling read that reveals how secrets shape our lives. Each story stands alone while adding to a bigger picture of revelation and intrigue. In some chapters, there were French words, but it was easy for me to understand the context. I think they add a nice touch to the story.

I rate "Secret Histories: Stories" 5 out of 5 stars, and the reasons are above. There's nothing I disliked; I liked everything! I found a few grammar errors, but they're not annoying. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy historical fiction with a twist of mystery and the supernatural. It's also a great choice for those who appreciate short stories that explore hidden truths and the complexities of human nature.
