I want to start reading again...

Hi,
I want to start reading again. Well, to be more exact, I want to start reading more again. I don't think I read a book last year and usually I just read one or two books a year.
The reason I don't read much is because I'm a very slow reader. I get frustrated because I tend to read the same lines over again and sometimes I don't remember what I just read.
But, I was wondering if someone could recommned some books to start with. I want to read books that can enhance my knowledge and make me a better person. I think non-fiction would be the best. I'm 35 years old. I enjoyed Seabiscuit and used to read Stephen King. I enjoyed Different Seasons (although I read it a long time ago).
Maybe I would enjoy fiction too, just some type of book that will get me thinking and motivated.
Does anyone have some recommendations for me?
Thanks.

Non-fiction seems like a good place to start, because that's more the sort of thing you can pick up and put down whenever and you don't need to spend time "getting into it." Take one of your other hobbies or interests and see if you can find books about them. I guarantee there will be something.

You might want to consider self-help books. Due to their personal relevance, they can grab your focus. Also, they are generally written in the most accessible way, so that readers can easily understand and comprehend the points and messages.
There's self-help books about all sorts of topics, and I think we all have areas in our lives we'd like to improve or otherwise gain helpful information, such as weight loss, financial success, personal inspiration, etc. If you want to try a self-help book, think about a general goal you have and find a self-help book about it.

im not sure which subjects you are interested in but next time you think about reading a book have a flick through and see what its like structurally. it might sound quite basic but if theres lots of bullet points and short paragraphs i think it makes it easies to remember what youve just read and it also makes it easier to dip in and out of. it doesnt necessarily mean the book is any less in-depth either, just more easily digested

One great way to get back into reading is Short Story anthologies. I'm a slow reader too, but I can read a short story in one sitting. I also love Good Old Days Magazine. These are autobiographical stories from the first half of the 20th century, written by everyday people. Topics include the world wars, transportation, music, in the kitchen, holidays, going to school, fashion, etc. Reading a magazine is like reading letters from friends or relatives. All of the stories are no more than just a few pages. This magazine is online.

If you enjoyed Stephen King and wanted to enhance your knowledge, how about any one of a number of sharp psychological thrillers along the lines of an Alfred Hitchcock film. Their appeal never wears out.
Also, The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier - famous classic in the UK or Flowers in the Attic by Virginia C. Andrews.

Slow Reader! Man I hear you. I've felt the same way and I get frustrated at my slow reading. I highly suggest you do a search online for Speed Reading courses. If you enjoy reading then it would be absolutely worth the investment.
