McDowell by William H. Coles is the riveting book about how the life of the famous physician Hiram McDowell is totally turned upside down because of his own mistakes. Despite brilliant work and unselfish devotion to medicine—which entailed establishing a foundation to provide medical services in Nepal—the career and reputation of Hiram are jeopardized by a disgruntled colleague and a watchful media blowing the whistle on faulty research and financial mismanagement. And when the world is falling apart, desperate attempts by Hiram to save his life yield disaster for him and his loved ones. Will he accomplish what he sets out to do and find forgiveness in the most unlikely of places, or is this his final demise? Take a journey through this riveting and profound novel to find out just what happens to Hiram in the end.

While reading this novel, to my honesty, I had gone through an unprecedented gamut of emotions: love, hate, anger, despair, joy, elation, scare, and much more. I was wholly lost in the storyline, feeling like one of the characters in the book. While watching the protagonist's life develop, fall apart, and then rise from the ashes, I felt that I was a witness to his journey. The characters assumed very different personalities and characteristics, each unique in their own way, which made the book very interesting to read. I'm glad I read this.

The book had its plot so captivatingly tangled with the story of Hiram and the people around him that it truly resonated with me. The influence brought forth by the story did not stay at a level where one simply enjoys it, but rather priceless lessons were given, and I was more than happy to take them. I was taken through by the captivating means of writing employed by the author to convey the intended message. Although to some others he may be imperfect, the reconstruction of Hiram was so enlightening and thus inspired me toward looking at life through a different prism—one that I will always treasure.

Even though there were a few grammatical problems, I really liked this book despite them. I really think that this book deserves a perfect five out of five stars review because I truly enjoyed reading it. It hit me on an emotional level, and I really recommend it to others because it is truly an amazing and powerful work.

This book will be entertaining to read for the enthusiasts of mystery, crime, and literature. The romance lovers will also find their share of moments in the plot. A story with unpretentious expressions of highs and lows of life, with solutions to the important problems, would definitely make this a great choice of book. It is worth reading as it gives some timely advice.
