Outta' Here by Leo Wright is a novel about a young man called Evan Rogers who walks out of school and plans to travel 2,500 miles to the West Coast without telling anyone. Eventually, he settles in Cokeville, gets a job and experiences many adventures. The book has a lot of action, including a shoot-out, an army training camp, courtroom dramas, a militia group, an international drug dealing operation and a missing person. The army training camp that Evan attends is realistic and very well portrayed. He starts as an eighteen-year-old boy and develops into a tough militiaman with a successful business and a loving relationship with Alice Stone.

Some characters are well-developed, particularly Evan Rogers and Alice Stone. They are believable, and the reader feels invested in their lives. A strength of the book is the imaginative storylines. The story is pacy and action-packed. Wright uses a lively and informal style of writing. The book's title is Outta' Here, and this phrase is repeated many times throughout the book. I think this dilutes the effect, and it would have been more effective to repeat it only at critical moments.

The army training camp was described in depth; I thought this was one of the strongest storylines. The book could be improved by having fewer side stories, as some seemed unnecessary to the plot. For example, towards the end of the book, Evan goes on a military operation in Chigana. I didn't feel this added anything to the story; it would have been better without it.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The story is imaginative and told with energy and verve. I took off one star due to numerous editing errors, some unneeded side plots and overuse of the phrase Outta' Here. This book would appeal to readers who like adventure stories and are interested in the military.
