Review of So-so
So-so by Nicholas Ventura is an amazing compilation of poetry, prose and short stories. With its unique blend of different writing styles, Nicholas’s So-so offers a fascinating outlook on human nature and mental conflicts which makes this book worth reading. The author reflects on various topics such as love, relationships, heartbreak, anxiety, depression and many more by crafting captivating pieces of musings and expressing some inner feelings as a person. The title of the book is what intrigued me to choose it.
Beginning with some of the poetry pieces, the book takes us to a poetry world where deep desires and strong feelings are expressed by the author. The rawness of the words used in poetry makes us fall in love with it. It might be a bit confusing or a bit less interesting in the beginning, but as you focus on reading it word-to-word, you realise each piece has a profound expression of its own. Some poetry pieces will just blow your mind; you will be tempted to read it on repeat.
Furthermore, the short stories and prose are a little more understandable and clear. With unique and heart-touching short stories, the author has tried to address some of the realities we face in our lives, such as anxiety, nervousness, loneliness, hopelessness, etc. As you read more, you realise that each story has some attribute of its own, be it life struggle, fear of losing a dear one, a heartbreak, etc. Nicholas has finely woven words to create an originality that helps us relate these literary pieces to our own lives.
The author also shares some of their inspiration sources as well as various styles of renowned authors and poets that were used in this book to create these fresh write-ups by blending different styles altogether. We can also see some of the rough sketches and pictures given towards the end of the book. This book is a confrontation of reality, expressing what is within you and not letting one’s thoughts and words get wasted. It strikes the immense possibilities of exploring ourselves and viewing the world from a different lens. What I loved more about the book is its way of seeing things from different perspectives. Nicholas's writing style mesmerises the readers with its straightforward expression of inner feelings and thoughts along with some new observations that coincide with reality and real human nature.
The book has been professionally edited however, I could find a few typos/grammatical errors. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars as I didn’t find any negative to point out. The positive side of the book is that it offers a realistic expression of thoughts and feelings that relate well to our lives. This makes the book a good read. I highly recommend this extraordinary book to all readers.
