This Lucky Bird is Happier Than You by Rose V. Waters is an adult book combining part fiction and part self-help guide for adult readers. The author has journeyed to happiness and guides us to harness the tools to discover our inner paradise.

Romy, a caged bird, has been observing her keeper, Amanda. She observes that Amanda is not on a journey to happiness and is constantly stressed and unfulfilled. The bird realises that humans suffer in all kinds of ways. Wars, poverty, politics, and toxic relationships can imprison us in invisible cages and a hidden world of silent suffering. Romy had resided in a metal birdcage for years, often dreaming of escape, feeling her situation was unbearable. Eventually, she felt the urge to seek happiness. Her life quality depended on herself. Romy has to get to know herself by exploring her inner beauty and stop waiting for perfection and joy. Romy pictured her paradise and embraced solitude, gaining a higher intelligence and finding joy in every aspect of life. Romy leaves Amanda a happiness manual to help her escape her invisible cage and journey towards a joyful life filled with unconditional love and boundless spirituality.

The use of physical and metaphorical cages is thought-provoking. I loved how Amanda is a student to Romy, a bird she caged. This bird offers immense wisdom and has turned the experience of imprisonment into an opportunity for discovery. The bird has looked within and spent valuable time on self-reflection. Positive thoughts help Romy to experience joy and live happily. Amanda, a human, should have a higher intelligence but seems to be missing the point of life, suffering silently and moving through life without purpose. Many readers will relate to hectic lifestyles that breed stress and find this book a tool to reprogram thinking. The author has provided a unique way to present the reading audience with a beneficial guidebook to direct individuals to positivity.

The book offers valuable advice regarding limiting stress, promoting unconditional love, embracing spirituality, and creating an inner paradise. Practising self-love is the first step to living a joyful life. I particularly liked that the author mentioned the physical benefits of living a happy existence, such as lowering blood pressure, boosting energy levels, and creating a better mix of hormones. I also appreciated the reinforcement that we don’t need materialistic things. The more we have creates more work and more stress. Often, we forget to acknowledge that if we are happy and our basic needs are covered, we have everything.

The book is excellently edited. I loved the original approach of the book with all its metaphors. The author offers practical advice through a wealth of personal experience and discovery. Lots of the content resonated with me and reminded me to eliminate negative thoughts and find joy within every moment, acknowledging I am already blessed. I found nothing to dislike about the book, so I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Adult readers looking for help on their path to happiness and enjoy motivational books will find this book inspirational.
