Hi, Im new to this forum. I would like to ask for some advice. I have been trying to get into reading for a while now and I always go for the girlies books but never end up finishing them. I think I am choosing the wrong type of books. Im going on holidays and I would like a book that is light but holds my attention and nothing scary! any suggestions???

I'd suggest any of Maeve Binchy's books .... easy to read, good stories and no vampires, aliens or scary bits!

Marian Keyes...funny, good characters, etc...I read two of her books of short stories on a cruise...Under the Duvet and Cracks In My Foundation

Well, I'm reading the comic version of Journey to the West, the pictures are really lovely. If you have any interesting stories, don't forget to share, I prefer something funny.

Cecelia Ahern is a great author. I love her books, especially bacause they are funny

I recommend Don Quixote by Cervantes; it's a light-hearted, witty novel telling the story of a deluded, middle-aged man who, one day, believes himself to be a Knight, and the comedy that follows.

If you want a decent thriller series why not try the Larsson trilogy to wile away the many hours on the beach, im halfway through the first one and am enjoying it very much so far.

Laura63 asked for "light ... nothing scary" - I don't think you could put Mr Larsson in that catagory ... I certainly would not anyway.

I've read the first & second books but even though I have the third in my pile since Xmas I seem to keep avoiding it

Try some detectives like classical ones Agatha Cristie and so on. They are easy to read and they make people interested.
