The sequel, Cross Intents: The Baptism, picks up where we left off in the first book. We are transported back into the world of the Bible 2000 years ago. We are given a behind-the-scenes look at what it means to be an angel in God’s army, fighting for Jesus and the people of Earth. In the first book, we learned how Elric, an angel captain, strategized with his team to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. In this sequel, Elric faces a more complicated battle with evil as he prepares for the baptism of Jesus. Elric and his team try to evade Satan and his forces as they cause chaos on Earth while searching for Jesus who is growing up with Mary and Joseph. Things become increasingly difficult as Jesus is not just a baby but a human boy who is growing, playing, and learning, requiring their protection and planning so that He can become the promised Messiah. Can the angels get Jesus where He needs to be so that God’s promise prevails, or will they be deterred by evil?

I enjoyed that I got to resume with these beloved characters and their stories. It was well written and detailed, which is why I have given this sequel 5 out of 5 stars. Also, there are no grammatical or spelling errors to be found, which speaks to the excellent editing. To take one of the most well-known stories and create a fantasy world around and within it showcases the genius of S.R. Wells. This book is especially suitable for those with similar beliefs, as it is steeped in Jewish and Christian scripture and prophecy, which may not resonate well with everyone. I do not recommend this book for children, as the themes of demons and possession can be frightening. Personally, I am always amazed when I read about the human activities that Jesus engaged in, and even though this is fantasy, it seemed real and honest to me.
