Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is set in the Olympic, Peninsula at early may when Tom found out that he has a twelve year old granddaughter. The story involves the characters different concerns. Tom finds out that his daughter who died five years ago have a child, Sarah. A woman brought Sarah to Tom and left her under his care for a couple weeks. Tom didn’t like it, he had plans and having a granddaughter to take care of was not part of it. After long arguments with his native friend William and daughter Myra, they found themselves hiking and camping in the mountains along with Sarah. Tom was not happy about the idea of Sarah coming along in this journey, a child in a dangerous long trail is a problem waiting to happen. During the time they spent together everyone learns a thing or two about each other. Tom of his granddaughter past, and them of Toms. Up above the clouds, in the mountains their story begin with an unexpected findings.

Upon reading the description of this story I didn’t really know what to expect. But as I read further I found myself hook to the whole idea of an out of this world journey, unexplainable. The idea of the author of how modern people came to be, and how people traveled and hunt before the modern human. I can see from reading this story that the author is well informed of the theories behind where modern humans started and how they spread to the continent. It very detailed and well explained through the characters.

I loved how the characters grow on this story, their speeches sound natural and it doesn’t involve lot of long speeches that felt surreal and unrealistic. The characters of a scientist and a native arguing between beliefs and data is well made and it felt like it’s the real thing. The characters have their own worries and reason coming to the hike. Although the story is narrated through third person point of view I felt the characters worries and the thrill of the adventure. There where character that are given very little information about but I think it’s alright.

Strong Heart is professionally edited, I noticed very few errors upon reading the book. They can be considered minor errors, such as written as some time when it should be written sometime. The errors are few that it don’t even matter, the book is still enjoyable.

I rate Strong Heart 4 out of 4 stars. The story has an unexpected turn that I didn’t consider, it caught me off guard. I recommend this story to everyone that likes a story of adventure that’s out of the ordinary. A story of legends, and myths of natives. Struggles and beauty that the wild offers. The story includes few fighting scenes, which makes it more interesting. I think this story would appeal
