Change is inevitable, and that is exactly what happens to Tom’s, Sarah’s, William’s, and Myra’s life in the book Strong-Heart. Tom, William, and Myra are all friends that are about to embark on a trip to the mountains for some unfinished business, when their lives get changed due to the introduction of Sarah, Tom’s long-lost granddaughter. Sarah had stayed for a while with her grandmother, but was driven to her grandfather, when Ruth, the grandmother, grew tired of Sarah’s ways.
The new introduction to the family was going to put a stop in the trip, until William convinces the others to take Sarah along. Once in the mountains, the story introduces you to some history about the land they are in, and the author does a wonderful job on describing the scenery so that one can envision themselves taking the trip! In the mountains, the story unravels to tell how all the characters are facing some sort of dilemma in their lives that also affects everyone in the town they are in. Then Sarah goes missing and things get a lot more interesting. Sarah seems to have vanished to an alternate reality/vision. That is a story that you must read!
Strong-Heart is wonderfully written book that draws you in with simplicity and elegance. It introduces you to the characters in such a way that you can find a way to relate to all or at least some of them. The struggles that they face in varying degrees and forms can be manipulated to current situations in one’s own life or in social circumstances (the world or friends), at least that is what I believe.
Even though I loved the story showing what Sarah went through, I did not like how there were so many characters introduced all at once, it got easier as the story progressed, but was also introduced quite abruptly with seemingly no introduction to the shift of the story being to that of what happened to Sarah. It is not major though, but still the thing that I did not like about the book.
I am hesitant of my overall score for the book. I am going to give it 4 out of 4 stars, as I believe it is a magnificent book! I know that 4’s should be reserved for the absolute best, and I believe this book is that. It does not have errors in it, as it seems to have been professionally reviewed, and again, is written in such a way that anyone of any age can read it and enjoy it. I look forward to the next book to see what happens to everyone and how dilemmas in the book will be handled if possible.
