Booker Shortlisted 'Room' by Emma Donoghue

Post by Fran »

I've just finished this book & happy to recommend it as a superb and very rewarding read.
Don't let the fact that it was inspired by the Fritzl abuse case deter you ... this book is really about identity and how someone who has lived an entire life in almost total solitary confinement creates a reality around themselves & finds a way to identify with their limited world view. It's written brilliantly in the voice of a 5yr old boy whose mother was abducted & gives birth to him while confined in an 11 x 11 foot room.
It's a most uplifting and thought provoking read and well deserves it's place on the Booker shortlist.
