The book Strong Heart is a fictional story written by Charlie Sheldon. The book has 45 chapters and about 270 pages. Sheldon uses the fictional story to show that stories are part of human life. There are some theories by some characters that try to explain the origin of human life. Each of these characters strongly beliefs that his/her theory is the actual one.
The main character ,Sarah, who is only thirteen years old, vanishes while they are in a hike with her grandfather who was accompanied by his two friends. When she comes back after 8 days, she has injuries on her head, the forth figure of her right hand missing and her palms torn. She narrates a story to them about what had happened to her in those 8 days. The story she narrated to them seemed real to her but to those she was narrating to, it seemed like she narrated what she imagined or a dream she had experienced. The funny thing about this Sarah's story was that she was given a name, a kind of nickname. The nickname was Strong Heart. She also gained some skills which was proven by the author to be real when she uses them,
first to defend herself and then her grandfather and his two friends later.
I liked the plot of the book. It was well planned. The author, Sheldon, employs a story within the main story, the story Sarah narrates. These gave me a break from the main story. The story itself was also very interesting. The different theories about the origin of humans from the different characters and their arguments to those theories also interested me. Sarah uses the habits of characters in her story to name them. This turns out to be humorous and interesting too. Weeps a lot, for example, liked to weep a lot while they were captives for the first time. The dialogue in the book was not overdone like in the case with some books I have read in the recent past were these was overdone. In fact, the dialogue in the book seemed to be in balance with the actions. This was really amazing.
The story that Sarah narrates is difficult to figure out if it is actually real or it is just her imagination. She could use the skills she claimed she had gained in her journey, but according to her story, the events seemed to have took many days, not just the 8 days she had vanished. This actually confused me.
I really liked the book and am very happy to give it 4 out of 4 stars. The book was professionally edited. I did not spot any grammatical errors. People who like stories involving hikes will really enjoy reading the book. I, however, don't recommend it to people under the age of 18 years. The book has murder incidents and an attempted rape.
